PHOTOSTORY FRIDAY - An Attic day

I'm really late with this one, but hope you enjoy it.

Today has been kept clear as an Attic day

This means that all housework is pretty much up to date (?)

dog walked, kids at school, just me at home on a day off from my day job.

Since 2002 my passion for vintage fashion became official

when I opened my vintage clothing website.

Its been a blast to indulge this passion, making the leap from  a hobby into a small business.

I don't invest as much time as I would like, wearing so many hats and since moving home from large rural farmhouse, to urban bungalow bill city dweller. So space and time is at a premium. Most of the stock has been packed up and I haven't done the site justice this year at all.

With the glitzy party season twinkling its bright lights on our doorsteps,

I have been buying new stock over the summer 

and secreting it in all places around the house.

Today was the day I could bring these treasures 

out and I have taken pics of some of the Attic day.

9am - so what have I bought, a real mix!

9.30 - a few tools of the trade

10.30 - getting some good images (a 1980's stunner)

11.00 - it's in the detail (1930's)

11.30 coffee & snack

noon- my current work area/dressing table/laptop

2pm-4pm -weather dried up, so I trimmed garden hedges for two hours 

4pm - s**t kids home already?

5pm -10pm - snatching time to edit/ upload /list on my websites - 

all very time consuming

'Wonderful tonight...'

I wanted to share a little of the excitement and joy I experience with my small online business.

Sara's Attic

I have had a vintage clothing shop online since 2002, after my passion for vintage fashion went into uber-drive!

Sometimes customers send pictures and share their 'story'.

This is the story of Hayley and a stunning mid 1980's Frank Usher gown.

I had the dress in stock for sometime and was about to take it off the site to turn the stock around to keep it fresh.

The dress is a strapless column gown, in an asymmetrical style in contrasting post box red and jet black. A large sash bow to the side of one hip.

However Hayley contacted me from the United States asking about the dress and postage. She was considering it for her Senior Prom. I furnished her with the relevant information, and subsequently posted it to her stateside.

A few months ago my day was pleasantly uplifted by her email and the photographs of her all ready on the night of her school Prom 2008, at The Regency Center, San Francisco

I think you'll agree she looked,

Happy Holidays ...Part One

I had never visited the Isle of Wight before so I was really looking forward to driving there with the kids.

We left home at 4am, to avoid the hot spots on the motorways and completed the 335 miles trip in good time. We stopped for a full greasy spoon breakfast at 6am and arrived at the Red Funnel terminal at 10am.

The trip across was a treat as the boat had to navigate through the yachts and boats in full competition mode!

We met my husband in Cowes, he had been there from the start of the week doing his corporate entertaining thing on one yacht and then crewing (if that's not the correct term l'm sorry) on another yacht in his spare time. We had our dinner with him a little early around 5pm as we were beat from wandering around Cowes and our long drive. Then we left to drive to our authentic vintage vacation destination.

Our trailer was a 1962 Airstream Safari and is in immaculate original condition bar a few small reconditioned elements.

For a gal who loves all things vintage and retro, it was a pleasure to be able to experience the trailer, in its full glory. Vintage Vacations uk is the brain child of Helen and Fraser who both manage and run the whole show. They have 10 trailers and counting all told and will shortly be adding the option of a renovated old Mission Hall to the site and even more trailers are being refurbished.

The attention to detail is outstanding as Helen has added a pile of authentic vintage board games, magazines and books. The Babysham is chilled with the original glasses and a fresh cream tea was awaiting our arrival. Bliss!

Authorblog - a question?

The question is: Do you have an item of clothing that you haven't worn for more than a year?

Well strange you should ask me that, as I'm the owner of an online vintage Boutique or two!!

If you asked my husband that, he would roll his eyes, guffaw or just scream, l'm the bane of his life. I also have my own collection of antique and vintage bags, as well as the stock for the sites, my own website and an Etsy site. Before we moved in November, from a large isolated country farmhouse to urban bungalow-billy land, my bags were displayed in old glass cabinets and were my pride and joy,(after the kids obviously, it is obvious isn't it?). Now it is all sequestered around the house, in secure boxes, under beds, in greenhouses and garages, the house attic and in cupboards and wardrobes in all bedrooms, this is not to mention the vintage clothing ... arghhhh!!!

... and as for my own clothing, I know l have pieces that l havent worn in over a year, cos l always buy a suitable xmas party frock, sometimes vintage sometimes current, and we never go out anywhere to wear them, so I have about 5 in the wardrobe now, that narrowly avoided the skip in November.
